My Experience at OSP South
Thursday, October 29th, 2009I recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Open Source Photo South workshop (http://ospsouth.com/) in Macon, GA. This 3 day event was hosted at iNward Studio by Neal Carpenter (www.inwardstudio.com/) and Heather Mason(http://www.khmasonphotography.com/). There were many great moments at this workshop that stood out, but these were my personal favorites.
Faith and Family
I was proud to hear many presenters talk about their faith in God and the importance of family. Each presenter shared personal moments in their lives that showed how important it is to have a life outside of photography. In times like these it seems that God is not talked about, but to hear many profess their faith was very reassuring.
Relationships
I loved hearing Amber Holritz (http://www.holritzphotography.com/) and Liana Lehman (http://www.lianalehman.com/) share very powerful moments of their connections with clients that went beyond business. Many people think business is about getting customers in and out and on to the next clients, but business is about building relationships. Not only should we develop relationships with clients, but with other photographers. Liana touched on points about photographers sharing challenges they are facing in business with other photographers. I am proud that in the Central Georgia area, I have found some great friendships with photographers who are willing to sit down to share problems but also solutions.
Technique and Hands on shoot
Through out the workshop we were shown many styles and techniques to broaden our horizon. Joe Dallas (http://www.jkdallasphotography.com/) demonstrated lighting techniques to use at receptions and full sunlight. We were able to tryout some techniques in downtown Macon. I could not wait to give this a try. Even though I was not able to shoot with strobes in every lighting setup it was great to see everyone having fun. I actually put some lighting techniques in action in some recent sessions. I cannot wait to post them on the blog.
To sum it all up, I had a great time. There are so many people to thank for pulling this together from the presenters to the behind the scene logistics that we did not see. Thank you to all who played a major part in bringing OSP South to Macon, GA. I look forward to chatting with you online.
Love,
Teddy
